Computer Science at Brown University


Charles Thompson is the former director of technology at St. George’s School and the former director of information technology at The Taft School. Charles Thompson, who had a 21-year tenure at St. George's, completed his master of science degree in computer science at Brown University in 2002. 

The Computer Science Department at Brown University was established in 1979. It has garnered a reputation as one of the nation’s leading computer science programs through its innovative information technology research and teaching environment. The Computer Science Department is multidisciplinary at its core, and has scholars from diverse backgrounds who are continuously involved in all aspects of teaching, research, and contributing to the IT field. 

The Computer Science Department provides cutting-edge computing technology to its students; in particular state-of-the-art classrooms, graphic workstation labs and high-performance computing clusters, and a virtual reality cave. 

The department also understands how important computing and algorithmic thinking is to scientific, social, and technological endeavors, and works together with departments including applied mathematics, economics, engineering, physics, and neuroscience to harness students’ imagination and skills.
